David Allen is a historian of US foreign relations and a former fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at the Harvard Kennedy School. His first book, Every Citizen a Statesman: The Dream of a Democratic Foreign Policy in the American Century, was published by Harvard University Press earlier this year. He has a PhD in history from Columbia University, and has held academic appointments at Yale and MIT. He writes regularly for The New York Times on classical music, and is currently a case writer and researcher at Harvard Business School.
