Major Gregory M. Scott was born on 22 June 1985 in Scottsdale, Arizona but he was raised outside of Austin, Texas. He began his college career at Texas A&M University and later transferred to Sam Houston State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Greg Scott was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in May 2011. He attended The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia then received orders to Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course.

Lieutenant Scott was assigned to 3d Battalion, 12th Marines aboard Camp Hanson, Okinawa, Japan in November 2012. During this tour, Lieutenant Scott served as a Fire Support Officer, Fire Direction Officer, Battalion Fire Direction Officer, and Assistant Operations Officer. He participated in numerous bi-lateral live fire exercises, subject matter exchanges, theater security cooperation exercises, and artillery relocation training program exercises throughout the Indo Pacific Command. He participated in Talisman Sabre, Cobra Gold, PHIBLEX, Korean Military Exchange Program, Balikatan, and RIMPAC. He integrated artillery with host nation forces in Australia, the Philippines, Korea, Japan, Thailand.

In May 2015, Lieutenant Scott received orders to Region 4 (South America), Marine Corps Embassy Security Group in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As an Inspecting Officer, he traveled to every country in South America to conduct security inspections of all United States Embassies and Consulates. During his time in Region 4, he assisted in multiple evacuations of diplomatic facilities due to deteriorating conditions in the host nations.

Captain Scott received orders to Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia in August 2018. After graduating in May 2019, Captain Scott received orders to 5th Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division and assumed command of Battery S in June 2019. As the Commanding Officer for Battery S, he led Sierra in Alaska, Yuma Arizona, 29 Palms California, White Sands New Mexico, Dugway Proving Grounds Utah and Camp Pendleton California.

Captain Scott deployed to Djibouti and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Central Command 21.1 as the Task Force Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel Officer in Charge. During this deployment Major Scott participated in operation ALLIES REFUGE, conducting the largest non-combatant evacuation in United States history.

Major Scott served as the 1st Marine Division Fires Plans Officer from 5th Battalion 11th Marines. His duties primarily involved HIMARS integration across the division but included all facets of the Division Effects Coordination Center including non-kinetic effects leveraged from operations in the information environment.

Major Scott is currently assigned to the Commandant Fellowship to Notre Dame International Security Center.

Major Scott’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and a Meritorious Service Medal.
