     Major Robert Simpson was born and raised near Charlotte, NC. In 2013, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Physics and a commission in the Marine Corps. Upon completion of The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course (IOC) in Quantico, VA, Lieutenant Simpson reported to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, for duty with Company A at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA.

     Lieutenant Simpson deployed as a Rifle Platoon Commander in 2015 in support of the Marine Rotational Force-Darwin. On return from deployment, he was assigned as the Weapons Platoon Commander and Fire Support Team Leader for Company A. In 2016, Lieutenant Simpson deployed in support of the 11th MEU. While deployed, Lieutenant Simpson aided the development of a Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) exercise with the Sri Lankan Marine Corps. He supported the South Sudan contingency response force out of Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti as part of Operation Oaken Steel. He also participated in multiple exercises, including an interoperability exchange with the Royal Army of Oman. On return from deployment, Lieutenant Simpson served as the 1/4 Assistant Operations Officer, leading battalion planning efforts for integration with the Japanese Ground Self Defense Force as part of exercise Iron Fist.

     In 2017, Captain Simpson attended MARSOC Assessment and Selection and was selected for entry into the Special Operations Officer pipeline. He then reported to the Marine Raider Training Center for the MARSOF Team Commanders Course (MTCC). After training, Captain Simpson reported to 1st Marine Raider Battalion (MRB) as the Team Commander for Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8132. In 2020, he deployed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) as the Ground Force Commander (GFC) of Team Sharurah in support of the Task Force 3 mission. His team partnered with the Royal Saudi Land Special Operations Forces, who led KSA’s tactical efforts to disrupt Violent Extremist Organization (VEO) threats in Yemen. Following deployment, Captain Simpson was assigned as the Executive Officer and Operations Officer for Marine Special Operations Company (MSOC) C.

     In 2022, Captain Simpson deployed to Iraq under Special Operations Joint Task Force-Levant in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While deployed, he partnered with an Iraqi Special Operations Brigade to counter ISIS operations in Northern Iraq. As the Operations Officer, Captain Simpson managed the tactical command and control of all USSOF teams in Federalized Iraq, overseeing Iraqi SOF development and partnered operations to ensure the lasting defeat of ISIS. In 2023, Major Simpson served as the Director for the Marine Raider Regiment Training and Education Group, leading the Regiment’s training and deployment certification efforts for each MSOC.

     Major Simpson’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “C” device and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. He is married to Dominika Lenart-Simpson of Konskie, Poland.
