Matt Conklin is a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago studying international relations and American Politics. Matt’s research interests include international security, war and society, US foreign policy, diplomatic history, and American Political Development.

He is currently working on his dissertation that examines how war impacts public views about the nation’s foreign policy. In particular, he investigates how the experiences of US Army soldiers in WWII shaped their views and the long term political character of their home communities.

Matt received an MA in international relations from the University of Chicago and a BA in history and economics from Wichita State University. Before starting his PhD, Matt was a research intern at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. His research has been published in Security Studies.
